Colon Disease:

Dr. Heiser performs colon surgery for diverticulitis and cancer. Often, this can be performed in a laparoscopically (small video camera) assisted fashion. The indications for surgery for diverticulitis are currently controversial. Dr. Heiser will talk with you at length about the number of times you have been afflicted with this disease, as well as other medical problems and lifestyle.

Colon cancer, depending upon its depth of invasion, frequently requires surgery. In most instances, we are able to re-connect the two ends of the intestine. Sometimes, a patient does require a diverting ostomy. We try to avoid this if is it safe to do so. The surgery requires hospitalization and it takes several weeks to completely recover .

Dr. Heiser will be happy to review your colonoscopy, x-ray, and biopsy results in order to determine how best to approach your particular situation and to provide you with definitive care.
