Many couples desire some form of birth control (permanent sterilization) after they have attained their desired number of children. There are many options for birth control. Vasectomy provides a permanent method that will not change sex in any way.
This procedure is done on an outpatient basis. We are sometimes able to perform this in the office. Sometimes, it is more appropriately performed in the operating room under IV sedation or general anesthesia.
The surgery itself takes about 30 minutes and the patient usually recovers completely within about ten days. This procedure is not foolproof, but is an extremely reliable form of permanent birth control. It is a wonderful operation in its simplicity, reliability, and quick recovery.
